Standing with Indigenous Peoples
We are all Treaty people.
This year, July 1st is not a time to celebrate, it is a time to reflect. We want to encourage everyone to take time to consider the current events happening in Canada and educate yourself on their history. We urge you to make an effort to familiarize yourself with the land you live and work on, and to take some time to learn the truth about some of the great injustices done to the Indigenous Peoples of the land we call Canada by many of this country’s most influential institutions.
There are so many ways we can stand side by side with Indigenous communities. Donate to an organization working on Indigenous Rights. Buy products from Indigenous artists, makers, and businesses. Support your local Indigenous groups.
The Labour movement stands in Solidarity with the Indigenous peoples of this land. We will continue to show up to rallies and protests and we ask you to join us. We will continue to lobby governments to immediately adopt the 94 Calls to Action generated by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada published in 2015.
